The Approach

The original plan was to climb Birdland today but we woke up to massive clouds over the canyon. We could see the storm moving in from the condo that we were staying out. By the time that we actually made it to the loop road we could see that our destination was getting rained/snowed on. After some pondering in the rental we decided to hike up from the second pullout to the Panty Wall and do some sport climbing. We weren't really prepared for sport climbing as all we had were two half ropes and some extendable slings. We decided we could fold the rope in half for leading and Lacey could top rope on the single line. It worked out fairly well.

The Climbs

Panty Wall

ilk Panties, 5.7**

We started off on the right hand side of the wall and picked the first bolted route that we could see. Finding routes here is pretty easy as you just follow the white chalk marks that go up the red sandstone. The climbing was ok on this route but not of the quality that you can usually find at Red Rocks.

Unknown, 5.7+***

The route to the left of Silk Panties felt like Red Rocks climbing. Great edges and fun moves as you climb a beautiful varied face. The climbing was great and interesting with the famous run out slopers near the top! Our book has this climb as Unknown and give the 5.7 rating a +. Not sure why the plus as it felt easier than Silk Panties.

Red Rocks
Saying goodbye to Red Rocks. This trip was way to short!

Neither of us had a watch with us and we both assumed that it was much later than it really was. We decided to head back to the car to find out that we could have had another hour in a half of climbing. O-well, we had back to the hot tub and another night out in the city.
