The Drive

Some friends and I planned a ski/snowboard trip to Mt. Bachelor for a few days. My friend Travis flew into Portland from Hawaii and came along for the trip. We stayed at our Timeshare in Redmond, OR. which is about 10 minutes from Smith Rocks State Park. After a couple days of great snowboarding at Hood Meadows and Mt. Bachelor we decided to spend his last day rock climbing. Unfortunately we only had a couple of hours since they had to leave for the 6 hour drive back to Seattle.

I wanted to lead a trad climb and the only one that I knew I could do was Cinnamon Slab. Is this one climb worth a trip report. Well, not really, but this site is for me to keep track of my climbs so I here it is.

Cinnamon Slab, 5.6***

We have both climbed this route before and thought it would be a pretty good climb to do with such a short amount of time. It's located on the right side of the Dihedrals area which has a lot of the easier Smith Rocks climbs. Cinnamon Slab climbs up the ramp right next to the famous Karate Crack. While climbing the ramp you can jam and place gear in the corner. The corner starts out thin and is great for stoppers and widens as you climb higher. The largest piece I had with me was a #3.5 BD Cam. Being my first trad climb for awhile I wish I had a larger piece or two for the upper part of the climb. Although the climbing is pretty easy, I was just paranoid.

Hiking back to the car.

Ann, Kazu and Travis headed back to Seattle and Jason, Saundra and I drove up to Mt. Bachelor to meet up with Jodie and Lee to do some afternoon riding. To bad it was so icy but we still had fun cruising the groomers.
