Lava Tubes and 3 Ponds
- Gear Used:
After a long drive on the 23rd we finally made it to the Snow Canyon State Park campground at about 9 P.M. We were all quit tired so after admiring the stars we threw the sleeping bags in the tents and fell asleep.
In the morning we decided to go on a couple of hikes before we checked into the condo that night. We started off with the Butterfly trail that leads to the lava tubes. Bryon and I have been to the lava tubes before but we were hoping on actually entering the caves this time. So I packed my headlamp with high hopes of exploring the unknown.

After hiking for awhile we realized I was the only one with a headlamp so we decided it would not be the best idea to travel in a dark cave with only one light. We enjoyed the stroll through the petrified dunes and the views of the massive walls.

We later did a short hike up to 3 Ponds but ended up getting distracted by a wash. We followed the wash for a little bit and turned around and headed back to the car.

We checked into the condo and spent a little time relaxing before driving to Zion National Park.
