The Hike

The original plan was to fly to Vegas for the Red Rock Rendezvous. Unfortunately, I ended up hurting my shoulder and getting sick. So, I spent a couple of day's in Vegas and then had my mother and younger brother come visit. We quickly got sick of the busy strip and left the city for the red canyons of Southern Utah.

On the drive through Nevada we thought we would explore a road that we have all passed by a hundred times but have never bothered to visit. Valley of Fire is only about 12 miles off of I-15 and it is well worth the detour.

We found a quick and easy hike that meandered through sand stone walls and red sand. The walls were covered with indian petroglyphs carved into the varnish. We spent a lot of time admiring the artwork and wondering what it was that they were trying to say.

The hike was only about a mile round trip but it was a great detour from the hours of driving. The Mouses Tank was actually not that interesting but the walk through the canyon was beautiful.

We didn't spend to much time there as we had a couple of tents waiting for us at Snow Canyon State park. On the drive out we had a beautiful double rainbow. Valley of Fire was an amazing place and I can't wait to see it again!
