Nevermind Wall, 5.10a
- Gear Used:
- 60 meter rope
- quickdraws
After taking Exit 38 off of I-90 take a right at the stop sign. Follow the road for about a 1/2 mile and park in the lot right before you cross Change Creek. The trail follow the creek on the right side for a ways until you head steeply to the trestle. Take a left when you reach the road and walk over the creek on the trestle. Immediately after the creek follow a steep trail through the forest to the wall. There is an old rope to help get up the first 10 feet of the trail.
It has basically been raining all day with a really low freezing level. We could see the snow line only a few hundred feet above us. Instead of saying screw it and heading back to Seattle we tuffed it out. The Nevermind wall is steep enough that most of the climbs stay dry. Although most if it is to hard for me to lead there is one climb that is at my ability.
This climb traverses most of the steep wall and makes for a great route. Start on a horizontal flake like system and follow the bolts up and to the right. The moves are fun and technical with the crux (for me) right at the top while you are getting to the chains. The temp today was cold enough that my fingers were numb after climbing about 15 feet. It is a weird feeling climbing with numb fingers. At least we got to climb on such a cold and wet day!

We top roped this climb and I had a blast trying to figure out the moves. I only climbed it till about the second to last bolt of Neverigine so I am not sure what the upper section of the route is like. The lower section was pretty fun with a steep dynamic move right at the start to some easier moves afterward. Small technical crimpers lead to Neverigine and that is as far as I made it. Fun route! I hope to be able to lead it soon! Sorry no pictures for this route.
We headed back home as everything else is way to hard for me to try and lead, especially on a cold and wet day like today. It was good climbing though and I am excited to try some of the harder ones on a better day!
